Polymele Occultation 2027-05-09 (G* = 15.1)

The interactive map below shows our current prediction for the occultation by (15094) Polymele on 2027 May 9 UT. The prediction is based on a Gaia eDR3 position for the star, corrected for parallax and proper motion, and the v20230505211035 orbit estimate for Polymele, which is derived from polymele_20230214a.bsp. This ephemeris has a 1-sigma crosstrack uncertainty of 12.5 km and a 1-sigma downtrack uncertainty of 1.7 sec for this event.

The geocentric mid-time of the event is 20:09:29.3 UT. The J2000 star position is RA 15:07:06.9 (15.1185913), Dec -17:09:23 (-17.156296), and its magnitude is 14.44. Polymele is moving at 18.1 km/s with respect to the star and its diameter is estimated to be 20.0 km, so central chords are expected to last 1.1 seconds.

Of-date coordinates for the target star on event night are RA 15:08:39.3 (15.1442500), Dec -17:15:37 (-17.260278).
